Romeo and Juliet in YA

Emma Holtrust January 28, 2016

As some of you might know, I’m doing my MA thesis on Juliet in YA literature. A few weeks ago, I asked Tumblr for help with books I could use for this. So many of you replied and I wanted to put all of the suggestions in a masterpost. I haven’t read all of these, so let me know which ones don’t fit or if I should add any! Some of these are retellings, others feature elements of R&J, some are fantasy and some are contemporary. Since this is my thesis subject, lots of reviews from these books will be coming your way over the next few months and will be added to the list!

All the books are arranged in alphabetical order and are linked to their Goodreads page. Special thanks to @bluestockingbookworm for spreading my post to so many people and giving some great suggestions!

Anyone But You - Kim Askew and Amy Helms (#3 Twisted Lit Series)

Arcadia Awakens - Kai Meyer

Daughter of Smoke and Bone - Laini Taylor (romance aspect)

Juliet - Anne Fortier

Juliet Immortal - Stacey Jay (first of a series)

Mystic City - Theo Lawrence (romance aspect)

Prince of Shadows - Rachel Caine (focus on Benvolio and Rosaline)

Romeo & Juliet & Vampires - Claudia Gabel

Saving Juliet - Suzanne Selfors

Still Star-Crossed - Melinda Taub

The Juliet Club - Suzanne Harper

The Juliet Spell - Douglas Rees

Twilight - Stephenie Meyer

Warm Bodies - Isaac Marion

When You Were Mine - Rebecca Serle

“That is part of the beauty of literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”
